We are so glad you asked. Truly. Because “what to wear” is both very simple and apparently one of life’s great unsolved mysteries.
The official dress code for our wedding is Elevated Cocktail for an Evening Garden Celebration, which lives in that magical space between “I wore this to a nice dinner once” and “I might accidentally be mistaken for a member of the wedding party.” If you find yourself questioning your outfit choices at any point, congratulations, you’re probably doing it right.
For Men:
A suit is your best friend here. Navy, charcoal, gray, or similar grown-up colors are all welcome. A tie is encouraged but not mandatory (we support both the tied and untied lifestyle). Jackets should stay on for photos, but feel free to loosen up later once dancing or existential conversations begin. Please note: jeans, shorts, sneakers, flip-flops, or anything you’d wear to brunch will be very sad and feel out of place.
For Women:
Think cocktail or midi-length dresses that feel elegant, festive, and evening-appropriate. Not short-short, not full red-carpet ball gown; we’re aiming for “I look incredible at a romantic garden party”, not “I might trip on my hem while walking across the lawn.” Elevated fabrics, thoughtful details, and a polished silhouette are your guiding stars.
For Everyone:
This is an outdoor garden wedding in the evening, which means elevated attire is expected, but practicality is appreciated. Heels are welcome, but wedges, block heels, or fancy flats may make your relationship with grass more enjoyable. Please save casual fabrics, daytime florals, beachwear, and anything that could be described as “comfy” for literally any other weekend. When in doubt: dress up, not down.
If you’re still unsure, ask yourself the following questions:
- Would I wear this to a very chic garden party at night?
- Would I feel confident standing next to people in suits and cocktail dresses?
- Would my outfit survive being photographed, danced in, and judged lovingly by relatives?
If the answer is yes, congratulations - you nailed it. If not, we promise you’ll still look amazing, and we’re just thrilled you’re there.
Anyway, don’t overthink it… we’re not.
